Launched in 2016 by Ajay Anand, Rare Carat uses technology to provide an impartial and transparent way for people to shop for diamonds. Users can compare diamonds by cut, color, clarity, and carat – known as the “Four Cs” – as well as price across multiple retailers.
So how to find better deals at Rare Carat?
- Access the Website: Open your web browser and go to www.rarecarat.com/diamonds
- Choose the Diamond Shape: On the page, you’ll see a dropdown menu or a section with advanced filters to select the shape of the diamond you’re interested in. This includes options like round, princess, oval, and more.
- Enter Your Budget: There’s a price range bar which allows you to set the minimum and maximum price you’re willing to pay for the diamond. Adjust this according to your budget.
- Enter Diamond Specifications: Below the price bar, there are more options to customize your search. You can select the carat size, color grade, clarity grade, and cut grade. Keep in mind that adjusting these characteristics can dramatically affect the price and appearance of the diamond.
- Advanced Filters: If you want more control over your search, click on “More Filters” which allows you to filter your search by factors such as depth, table, fluorescence, symmetry, and more.
- Review Results: Review the results. Each listing will include the diamond’s price, carat, cut, color, and clarity (also known as the 4 Cs), as well as other details like fluorescence, depth, and table. You’ll also see which retailers are selling the diamond.

What is 4cs in diamond?
The 4Cs of diamonds refer to four characteristics that are used to assess and compare the quality of diamonds: Carat, Color, Clarity, and Cut. These factors were established by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and are globally accepted in the diamond industry.
- Carat: This is the measure of a diamond’s weight, and by extension, its size. One carat equals 200 milligrams. Larger diamonds are rarer and thus more valuable.
- Color: Diamonds are rated on a color scale established by the GIA, which goes from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown). Truly colorless diamonds are the most rare and most valuable.
- Clarity: This refers to the presence of internal or external flaws, known as inclusions and blemishes respectively. The GIA’s scale for clarity ranges from Included (I1, I2, I3), where inclusions and blemishes are obvious, to Flawless (F), where there are no inclusions or blemishes visible under 10x magnification. The fewer the inclusions and blemishes, the more valuable the diamond.
- Cut: This refers not to the shape of the diamond, but to how well it has been cut from its rough form. The quality of a diamond’s cut affects its brilliance and sparkle. The GIA’s cut grade ranges from Poor to Excellent. A well-cut diamond can appear more brilliant than a poorly cut diamond of higher carat weight or better clarity and color.
When buying a diamond, all four of these factors should be considered. It’s also important to remember that the overall beauty of a diamond often comes from a balance of these four factors, not just one.
